Dangote Secures Over 1,000 CNG Trucks from China's BAIC FOTON

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has finalized a significant partnership with Chinese automaker BAIC FOTON, ordering more than 1,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks to enhance logistics operations across Nigeria and beyond.

The deal, arranged through Kewalram Autos, will primarily support Dangote Cement's distribution network while bolstering the Group's broader industrial and logistics activities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The acquisition includes a variety of CNG-powered tractors and semi-trailers tailored for heavy-duty haulage, promising reduced fuel expenses and lower carbon emissions in line with sustainable energy goals.

The agreement was sealed during a high-level strategic meeting in Beijing, where a Dangote delegation led by Aliko Dangote engaged with BAIC FOTON's top leadership.

Key attendees included Chang Rui, General Manager of BAIC Group and Chairman of BAIC FOTON; Executive Vice President Lu Zhenghua; and Fu Jun, Vice President and President of BAIC FOTON International.

The session was coordinated by Anil Sahgal, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Kewalram Mobility.

BAIC FOTON executives praised the Dangote Group's role in advancing African industrialization and expressed strong interest in deepening ties on the continent through innovative new-energy commercial vehicles.

Fu Jun emphasized the company's global expansion strategy and its advancements in efficient, eco-friendly transport solutions.

In response, Aliko Dangote lauded BAIC FOTON's expertise in CNG truck technology, noting that the collaboration aligns with Africa's push for sustainability and the broader energy transition.

Kewalram Autos committed to delivering full lifecycle support, including after-sales services and plans for local assembly to maximize fleet reliability and performance.

Industry observers view the transaction as a strong signal of increasing adoption of alternative fuels in Nigeria's heavy transport sector.

It highlights the Dangote Group's ongoing commitment to investing in efficient, greener logistics infrastructure to fuel its growing industrial empire.

This move complements related initiatives, such as Nigeria's push for expanded CNG infrastructure and Dangote's focus on steel, power, ports, and sustainable multimodal transport.
