The national leadership of the Action Peoples Party (APP) has dissolved the Imo State executive committee and constituted an eight-member interim caretaker committee to manage the chapter’s affairs pending the conduct of congresses.
The decision followed an emergency meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), chaired by National Chairman Barr. Uchenna Nnadi.
In a statement issued on March 3, 2026, Nnadi said the dissolution is in preparation for the Imo State congress scheduled for March 24, 2026, with ward congresses set for the same date, local government area congresses on March 26, and the state congress on March 28.
The caretaker committee has been directed to work closely with stakeholders to complete the ongoing membership registration exercise, admit new members, and ensure thorough preparations for the congresses that will produce new executives at ward, local government, zonal, and state levels.
The eight-member interim committee comprises experienced former state officials:
Hon. Njesi Ernest (former State Chairman) – Interim Chairman
Engr. Emeka Onwukwe (former State Secretary) – Interim Secretary
Engr. Henry Alaribe (former Owerri Deputy Chairman) – Interim Deputy Chairman, Owerri Zone
Arr. Ogemdi Ezeonye (former Deputy Chairman, Orlu Zone) – Interim Deputy Chairman, Orlu Zone
Mr. Ernest Ezirim (former Deputy Chairman, Okigwe Zone) – Interim Deputy Chairman, Okigwe Zone
Barr. Uche Nwosu (former Legal Adviser) – Interim Legal Adviser
Comrade Cajethan Duke (former Publicity Secretary) – Interim Publicity Secretary
Peter Etoh (former Assistant Financial Secretary) – Interim Treasurer
The national leadership expressed confidence that the caretaker committee will promote unity, ensure inclusivity, and facilitate a smooth transition as the party repositions itself for greater participation in the 2027 general elections.
The APP has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the dissolution and the scheduled congresses in line with regulatory guidelines.
The restructuring is part of broader efforts by the party to strengthen its presence, particularly in the South-East, as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
