Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmed has issued a strong public call for urgent investigation into the activities of Alex Barbir, a young American foreigner accused of spreading hate and attempting to incite violence against Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.
In a statement that has circulated widely on social media, Ahmed emphasized the need for swift and lawful action by relevant authorities. “This is a strong call on the relevant authorities to urgently look into the activities of this young foreigner, Alex Barbir, who has been moving around openly, spreading hate and attempting to incite violence against Nigerians of diverse backgrounds,” he said.
Ahmed further urged officials to “take swift and lawful steps to investigate, apprehend where necessary, and ensure accountability to safeguard peace, unity, and public order.”Barbir, often described as a U.S. missionary or activist with ties to Christian communities in Plateau State (particularly linked to Pastor Ezekiel Dachomo), has been vocal about reported attacks on Christians in regions like Jos.
Critics, including Ahmed and various Arewa groups, allege that his public statements, such as speeches at funerals and commentary on social media cross into incitement by targeting Muslims and Fulani communities while highlighting sectarian violence.
Supporters of Barbir view him as a voice raising awareness about violence against Christian populations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, while detractors accuse him of fueling division under the guise of humanitarian or missionary work.
