2027: Tension in Oyo APC over alleged list of consensus candidates

Tension is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State following the emergence of a purported list of “consensus” candidates for the 2027 elections over the weekend.

The alleged list, reportedly compiled by some party leaders, names candidates for the governorship, deputy governorship, senatorial districts, and House of Representatives seats.

According to the list, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District and previously served as Secretary to the Oyo State Government, was selected as the gubernatorial candidate. He hails from Ibadan. His proposed running mate is Mr. Soji Adedeji, younger brother of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Executive Chairman Dr. Zacchaeus Adedeji, from the Ogbomoso zone.

For the senatorial positions, the list picks:

Rep. Aderemi Oseni (Ido/Ibarapa East) for Oyo South

Senator Yunus Akintunde to re-contest in Oyo Central

Mrs. Hannah Ogunrsan, a former Head of Service under ex-Governor Abiola Ajimobi, for Oyo North.

Several names were also listed for House of Representatives seats across various federal constituencies, including Faruk Arisekola (Ibadan North), Funke Adesiyan (Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East), Idris Ajimobi (son of ex-Governor Abiola Ajimobi for Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West), and others such as Hon. Lafioye Akinmoyede, Akin Akinjide, Hon. Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, and Olamiju Alao-Akala, among others.

Many aspirants who have invested heavily in campaigns are reportedly unhappy with the list, leading to growing discontent and tension within the party. Sources who spoke anonymously expressed strong displeasure over the development.

However, the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Olawale Sadare, dismissed the list as fake. He stated that the party leadership has launched an investigation into those behind its circulation.“It is fake. As a matter of fact, the leadership of our great party has launched an investigation into the brains behind the circulation of a fresh list of purported Oyo APC candidates as it was obtained on social media a few hours ago and we can assure our teeming members and supporters that the list is not only fake but also deceptive and provocative,” Sadare said.

He emphasized that the party currently has no aspirant or candidate list for 2027, as it is not yet time for expressions of interest, nominations, or primaries.

The situation continues to stir debate within Oyo APC circles as the party prepares for future electoral battles.
