Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of intending to relocate Nigeria's federal capital from Abuja to Lagos if re-elected in 2027.
In a statement issued on Monday, Frank described the Tinubu administration as pursuing a "Lagos-centric agenda" that prioritizes benefits for Lagos State while sidelining other regions.
He alleged that major policy decisions, federal appointments, and development projects under the current government disproportionately favor Lagos, with the ultimate aim of concentrating political and economic power there in a second term.Frank claimed:
“It is now clear that the President’s long-term plan is to concentrate political and economic power in Lagos if given another term in office.”
He further criticized the administration for deepening regional and ethnic divisions, stating that "no president in Nigeria’s history has divided the country and its people along regional and ethnic lines the way this administration has done."
The former APC chieftain accused the government of deliberately impoverishing regions such as the North, South, and Southeast to economically weaken citizens ahead of the 2027 elections.
He questioned the lack of concrete development initiatives in those areas, asking: “Where are Tinubu’s MOUs tied to agricultural and livestock production in the North, industrial development in the Southeast, and oil and gas development in the South-South? None!”Frank emphasized the need for a balanced, non-one-sided presidency to preserve national unity, warning of growing alienation among Nigerians due to perceived regional favoritism.
The allegations come amid ongoing political tensions and preparations for the 2027 general elections. Neither President Tinubu nor the presidency has publicly responded to Frank's claims as of the time of this report.
