Vice President Kashim Shettima today led a high-profile All Progressives Congress (APC) reception to formally welcome Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the ruling party.
The ceremony, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, follows Governor Yusuf's earlier defection notice from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and his official registration as an APC member earlier this year.
Yusuf cited the need to align Kano with the federal government's agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for faster development.
Vice President Shettima presided over the event, joined by governors from Imo, Sokoto, Kebbi, Kaduna, Jigawa, and other APC heavyweights, including former Kano Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, and senior federal appointees.
The gathering highlights the APC's efforts to strengthen its base in the North-West, bolstered by a recent leadership-sharing agreement in Kano between Yusuf's Kwankwasiyya supporters and the existing APC structure.
Thousands of supporters, lawmakers, and local leaders accompanied Yusuf in the switch, reshaping Kano's political dynamics one of Nigeria's most populous states.
Party leaders view the strong federal presence as a firm commitment to unity, progress, and stability in the state.
The event builds on endorsements for continued collaboration between President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf to drive development in Kano.
