The All Progressives Congress (APC) has finalized a 60/40 leadership-sharing agreement in Kano State to integrate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Kwankwasiyya bloc that defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The formula gives 60 per cent of leadership positions to Governor Yusuf and Kwankwasiyya members who joined the APC, with the existing party structure holding the remaining 40 per cent.
The deal is aimed at promoting inclusiveness, unity, and active participation of all stakeholders in party affairs and governance.APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda disclosed the arrangement during his first official courtesy visit to Governor Yusuf at the Government House in Kano.
He described it as a deliberate strategy to build a stronger, more cohesive APC in the state.
The meeting featured key figures such as former APC National Chairman and ex-Kano Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, and other senior party stakeholders.
Professor Yilwatda praised the impressive turnout of APC supporters, calling it a clear sign of growing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and stronger prospects in upcoming elections.
He specifically thanked Yusuf Gawuna and Senator Barau Jibrin for putting party unity above personal ambitions, and commended Dr. Ganduje for his consistent efforts to strengthen the party in Kano.
In response, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to the national leadership for embracing inclusivity and peace. He pledged to collaborate closely with all party factions to ensure Kano remains united, prosperous, and fully aligned with President Tinubu’s national development priorities.
The governor highlighted the massive show of solidarity at the event as proof that APC members in Kano are committed to working together for the party’s success and the people’s welfare.
This 60/40 power-sharing pact with the Kwankwasiyya bloc marks a major step in consolidating APC influence in one of Nigeria’s most politically important states following Governor Yusuf’s defection.
