A joint committee of the National Assembly has expressed full satisfaction with the Nigerian Army's N1.504 trillion budget proposal for 2026, committing to work towards the timely release of funds for effective implementation.

The approval followed a joint budget defence session held in Abuja between the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Army and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, announced the committees' unanimous approval after the Army chief's presentation.

“We are committed to collaborating with him to ensure success. The Army remains critical to our national security, and we will support it with everything necessary.”

Yar’Adua, however, highlighted a persistent challenge affecting the Army and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs): delays in the actual release of appropriated funds.

He pledged that the National Assembly would address this issue to prevent operational setbacks.Chairman of the House Committee on Army, Hon. Aminu Balele, joined in commending Lt. Gen. Shaibu and Army personnel for their dedication and patriotism in combating insurgency and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Balele assured continued legislative efforts to secure prompt fund releases and maintain strong oversight.

He thanked his Senate counterpart, Senator Yar’Adua, and colleagues for the collaborative effort, as well as Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, for his support.

“As we conclude the 2026 budget defence, I want to reaffirm that the National Assembly will keep pushing for timely fund releases so the Army can effectively discharge its constitutional duties,” Balele stated.
