The University of Abuja (UniAbuja) has approved the expulsion of 28 students following findings of serious disciplinary offences, including examination malpractice, cult-related activities, result falsification, and other criminal misconduct.
The decision was reached at the institution’s 191st Regular Meeting of Senate, held on Thursday, January 28, 2026, at the university’s main campus.
The Senate considered the report and recommendations from the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC).
In a statement issued on Sunday by Dr. Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of Information and University Relations, the university detailed the offences for which the students were found culpable.
These include:
Threat to life and assault
Examination malpractice
Conspiracy
Burglary
Theft
Cult-related activities
Possession and use of hard drugs
Falsification of ‘O’ Level results uploaded on the university portal for admission purposes
Failure to appear before the disciplinary committee after repeated invitations
The statement emphasized that the affected students were found guilty after due process and investigations.
Additionally, the university revoked the certificates of 15 former students (alumni) who repeatedly ignored invitations from the disciplinary committee.
In related outcomes from the same process:Nine students were exonerated after investigations cleared them.
Thirty-three others received warnings for lesser infractions, such as conspiracy, hostel racketeering, and fighting.
The university has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, aiming to uphold academic integrity, campus safety, and discipline.
