‘The People Have Spoken’ — APC Chairman Hails Victories in FCT, Rivers, Kano Polls

Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has celebrated the party's strong showing in Saturday's local government and by-elections across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers State, and Kano State, declaring that the results reflect the true will of the people and the party's solid grassroots foundation.

In a statement following the announcement of results, Yilwatda described the outcomes as "a clear testament to the resilience, unity, and grassroots strength of the APC." He stated:

“The people have spoken through the ballot, and democracy has prevailed.”

Key highlights from the polls include:Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council Elections: The APC secured chairmanship victories in five out of six area councils, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Kuje, Abaji, Bwari, and Kwali.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the chairmanship in Gwagwalada.

Rivers State House of Assembly By-Elections: APC candidates won in the contested constituencies of Ahoada East II and Khana II.

Kano State House of Assembly By-Elections: The APC triumphed in the Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies, with the sons of deceased lawmakers emerging victorious in these seats.

Notably, major opposition parties boycotted the Kano polls.

Yilwatda congratulated the winning candidates, party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for their discipline and dedication, while commending the peaceful conduct of the elections.

He urged continued unity and commitment to President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda to deliver good governance.

The victories come amid reports of largely peaceful voting, with observers like Yiaga Africa praising the orderly process despite some low turnout and isolated issues (such as delays in result collation in parts of Kuje due to logistical challenges).

President Tinubu has also commended the outcomes, particularly in the FCT, crediting them to effective leadership and reforms.

These elections, including FCT area council polls and state assembly by-elections, serve as a key indicator of political sentiment ahead of future contests, reinforcing the APC's dominance in strategic areas.

The party views the results as an endorsement of its policies and organizational strength at the grassroots level.
