UK-Based Media Visits Operation Hadin Kai, Praises Counter-Terrorism Gains

A delegation from the UK-based Channel 4 News, led by Senior Producer and Team Leader Freddie Gower, visited the headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Maiduguri, Borno State, where they commended the Joint Task Force (North East) for its significant progress in combating terrorism.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at Operation Hadin Kai Headquarters, the visit aimed to highlight to the international community the major achievements of the Nigerian Armed Forces in countering insurgency.

Gower noted that Channel 4 News, headquartered in London with a global audience, focuses on human-interest stories, terrorism, and asymmetric warfare. He said the trip provided valuable first-hand insights through engagements with commanders and local communities.

He thanked the Theatre Commander for the warm reception and described the visit as insightful and rewarding, particularly praising the detailed operational briefings that offered a clear picture of OPHK’s successes, challenges, and progress.

Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, welcomed the visit as a sign of growing international interest in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency efforts. He assured the delegation of full cooperation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and responsible media engagement.

The commander emphasized OPHK’s goal of restoring normalcy across the North East to revive socio-economic life while intensifying stabilisation operations. He highlighted the priority given to non-kinetic measures to protect vulnerable communities, enabling thousands of internally displaced persons to return home.

Enhanced security has also supported farm patrols to improve food security and ensured safe access for humanitarian agencies providing medical care, nutrition, vaccinations, and immunisation programmes.
