Soldiers from the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed at least 20 terrorists and destroyed a key bandit stronghold in Zamfara State.
The operation targeted the camp belonging to the bandit leader known as Dankami, following credible intelligence that over 100 bandits had gathered there to orchestrate coordinated attacks on nearby communities and logistics routes.
A security expert, Zagazola Makama, citing a military source, reported that troops backed by the Nigerian Air Force, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local vigilantes conducted extensive week-long surveillance before launching the assault.
Contact with the bandits was made on January 31, 2026, when the terrorists advanced toward the troops. A fierce firefight ensued, during which the bandits attempted a flanking maneuver, but this was repelled through superior firepower.
According to the military source, 20 terrorists were neutralized in the clash, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. Follow-up operations are continuing to evaluate additional casualties, recover items, and further disrupt the group's activities.
The successful raid has dismantled a major operational base for the bandits in the region, where armed groups have long terrorized residents through kidnappings, killings, and extortion.
No military casualties were reported in this engagement.
