Military Kill Boko Haram Second-in-Command in Sambisa Forest

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralized Abu Khalid, identified as the second-in-command of Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, along with 10 other terrorists.

The operation took place during a night offensive in the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, around 11:00 p.m.

Troops from Sector 1, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) as part of Operation DESERT SANITY, made contact with the insurgents and engaged them in a fierce firefight.

Military spokesman Col. Sanni Uba described Abu Khalid as a key figure in the terrorist hierarchy, responsible for coordinating attacks, managing logistics, and directing fighter movements across the Sambisa axis and parts of the North-East.

His elimination is seen as a significant setback to Boko Haram's command and control structure and a boost to efforts to degrade the group's capabilities in the notorious Sambisa Forest enclave.

The raid occurred just 24 hours after troops neutralized another high-profile Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Julaibib, in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.

Several weapons, including rifles and magazines along with bicycles, assorted logistics items, food supplies, and large quantities of medical items were recovered from the scene.

No casualties were reported among the Nigerian forces or CJTF members. This latest strike continues a string of recent successes in the region, further weakening Boko Haram's operational presence amid sustained clearance operations by the military.

Follow-up efforts are ongoing to disrupt remaining terrorist networks in the area.
