The Labour Party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has refuted claims that it is struggling to fund its activities.
The Usman-led faction stated that it has always operated on a limited budget, responding to remarks made by its former Publicity Secretary, Tony Akene, regarding the party’s finances.
Senior Special Adviser to Usman, Ken Eluma Asogwa, explained that Akene’s departure stemmed from unrealistic expectations about the party’s financial capacity.
He further stated that it is widely known that the party does not have the resources to spend like the Peoples Democratic Party or the All Progressives Congress, which are governing parties with access to power.
He said, “If before his appointment he was thinking that he was coming to, maybe, dispense resources from a deep pocket, and he came in and he’s not able to see it, and he left. I don’t think the party is to blame for his departure.”
Addressing the ongoing leadership dispute, he emphasised that a court judgment recognises Senator Nenadi Usman as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, and that the Independent National Electoral Commission has acknowledged her leadership.
