INEC Denies Underage Voter Registration Claims in Ede North

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has strongly refuted social media reports alleging the registration of underage persons as voters at its Ede North Local Government Area office.

In an official statement, INEC expressed concern over a Facebook post claiming that students wearing school uniforms were registered as voters at the Ede North office on Friday, February 6, 2026.

The Commission clarified that although some students from YTD Grammar School, Ojoro, Ede, were brought to the office with the intention of registering, electoral officials strictly followed the law and denied them entry to the premises.

INEC reiterated that only Nigerian citizens who have attained the age of 18 years are eligible for voter registration, as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Electoral Act 2022.

The Commission urged the public to disregard the misleading social media claim and to rely exclusively on official INEC communication channels for accurate and verified information.
