The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has stated that the Nigerian military is carefully managing its partnerships with foreign allies to protect the country’s sovereignty.
General Oluyede made the remarks on Tuesday while appearing before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Defence to defend the military’s allocation in the 2026 budget.
He emphasized that the armed forces are streamlining these international collaborations to ensure they align with Nigeria’s national interests and do not undermine its independence or territorial integrity.
The CDS’s presentation highlighted the strategic approach being adopted to balance the benefits of foreign military support with the preservation of Nigeria’s sovereign authority amid ongoing security challenges.
