Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has firmly denied accusations that his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) amounted to betraying the people who elected him in 2023 on the PDP platform.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists at the Government House in Jos on Saturday, February 1, 2026, Mutfwang described the move formalized on January 27, 2026 as a strategic realignment in the best interest of Plateau State, not personal betrayal.
He argued that the PDP's internal turmoil made it an unviable platform for 2027, prompting him to accept President Bola Tinubu's invitation to join the ruling APC for greater federal collaboration, enhanced development in sectors like education, security, and agriculture, and stronger support for ongoing projects.
Mutfwang emphasized that Plateau voters are rational and trust their leaders' judgment, noting widespread grassroots commitment to his decision despite criticisms from some political figures.
He assured residents of more collaboration, progress, and positioning the state as a "jewel of the crown" in the North Central region ahead of future elections.
