Abia State Governor Alex Otti has declared that the Labour Party (LP) continues to be a strong and formidable political force even after the departure of its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Speaking on Saturday night during the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, Otti acknowledged that the LP has experienced some defections, including lawmakers and members of the interim national committee, following Obi’s official move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on December 31, 2025.
Despite these losses, the governor insisted that the party remains resilient and as powerful as ever, emphasizing its enduring grassroots support, ideological foundation, and capacity to influence Nigeria’s political landscape.
Otti’s remarks aim to rally party faithful and project confidence ahead of future elections, countering perceptions that Obi’s exit has weakened the LP’s relevance.
