The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised serious alarm over reports that civil servants across multiple states are being coerced into joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) through its ongoing e-registration exercise.
In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC claimed that the pressure originates from the national leadership of the APC, describing the practice as a form of economic coercion and forced political membership.
The party argued that compelling public servants to register with a specific political party violates their constitutional right to freedom of association as guaranteed under Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The ADC condemned the alleged tactics as undemocratic and an abuse of power, calling on relevant authorities to investigate and put an end to what it termed an assault on individual liberties and the principles of multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
