Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi joined the “Occupy National Assembly” protest in Abuja on Tuesday, accompanied by his eldest son, a medical doctor.
Speaking at the demonstration — now in its second day, Amaechi explained his son’s presence and role:
“I brought my first son to join the protest. He is a medical doctor, his job is if there's injury to treat the injured ones.”
The protesters are demanding that the Senate reverse its rejection of mandatory real-time electronic transmission of election results to INEC’s result-viewing portal (I-RECV) in the ongoing Electoral Act amendment process.
Amaechi’s participation, along with his son’s readiness to provide medical support, has drawn attention to the seriousness of the movement and the potential risks involved.
The demonstrations near the National Assembly Complex are being led largely by youths and civil society groups calling for greater transparency and integrity in Nigeria’s electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
