FCT Poll: ADC Supporters More Visible on Social Media Than in Voting Booths – Bashir

Former presidential aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has questioned the African Democratic Congress (ADC)'s grassroots strength in Saturday's FCT Area Council elections, highlighting a gap between its strong online presence and actual voter turnout.

In his February 21, 2026 post on X, Ahmad stated:

"With this FCT election, one cannot help but wonder about the real grassroots presence of the coalition ADC. The patterns suggest that the majority of their supporters appear more visible on digital platforms than within the actual voting system".

Early results show low turnout across the FCT, with ADC tying APC 12-12 in one Karu unit and winning or leading in a few urban wards, but trailing significantly in many others often with low single- or double-digit votes.

Ahmad's comment shows the challenge for the opposition coalition: impressive digital momentum has not yet consistently translated into robust on-ground mobilization and votes.

The observation has sparked debate online, with some blaming low participation and restrictions, while others stress the need for stronger local structures ahead of 2027.

As collation continues, the FCT polls serve as an early test of ADC's organizational readiness.
