The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in the Bwari Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with its candidate, Joshua Ishaku, declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Prof. Mohammed Nurudeen, the returning officer for the election held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, announced the results early Sunday morning in Bwari.
Ishaku polled a total of 18,466 votes, comfortably defeating his closest rivals and satisfying all legal requirements for declaration.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate finished second with 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate placed third with 3,515 votes.
Other parties recorded far lower figures across the council's 10 wards: Igu, Shere, Dutse, Ushafa, Byazhin, Kuduru, Kubwa, Usuma, Bwari Central, and Kawu.
The APC win in Bwari follows the Supreme Court's recent affirmation of Ishaku as the legitimate APC candidate, resolving a pre-election dispute over the June 2025 primary.
The ruling paved the way for a clearer contest, particularly after the PDP candidate withdrew and endorsed Ishaku following consultations with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
This result strengthens the APC's position in the ongoing FCT area council elections, where the party has shown strong performances in several councils.
Voting was largely peaceful, although some observers reported low voter turnout and minor logistical challenges in parts of Bwari.
