2027: Peter Obi is lazy — Showunmi

A prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Showunmi, has labeled former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as lacking seriousness and being "lazy" in terms of structural political planning for the 2027 elections.

Showunmi expressed these views during a Saturday interview on Channels Television's Hard Copy program.

According to him, Obi has failed to identify a clear pathway to victory. Showunmi argued that Obi could have remained in the Labour Party (LP), where a straightforward route to success might have been available.

He stated: “Peter Obi is not serious. He doesn’t know where his victory card is. He could have stayed in the Labour Party, and there could have been a clear path to victory for him.”

Showunmi further criticized Obi's frequent party affiliations and movements, describing them as a form of laziness.

“Every time he’s moving around. I don’t deal with that kind of laziness,” he said. “When it comes to structural thinking, Peter Obi is very lazy.”

He added that Obi overlooked the potential long-term benefits of staying in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), claiming that remaining there would not have allowed him to build the large following he currently enjoys.

Showunmi also questioned Obi's recent alignment with figures in the PDP, particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He asserted that Atiku's deep institutional experience in party primaries dating back to 1992 makes him a formidable force that cannot be underestimated.

“You don’t come to a political party with that kind of man and start screaming that if it’s not Peter Obi, you won’t agree. Who will listen to that?” Showunmi remarked, suggesting that such demands would not gain traction.

The comments come amid ongoing discussions about potential coalitions, party switches, and strategies among opposition figures positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race.
