President Tinubu Returns to Nigeria After Successful State Visit to Türkiye

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived back in Abuja on Saturday night, January 31, 2026, concluding a productive state visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

The presidential Airbus A330 landed at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 8:55 p.m. local time. Senior government officials welcomed the President upon his arrival.

The visit, which began earlier in the week following his departure from Abuja on January 26, featured high-level bilateral discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.

The talks focused on deepening ties between the two nations in key areas including trade, investment, defence, energy, security, counter-terrorism, and research.

A major highlight was the signing of nine Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at boosting cooperation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral trade, with renewed efforts toward achieving a $5 billion annual trade volume.

Additional initiatives include the establishment of a Joint Economy and Trade Committee to facilitate Turkish investments in Nigeria and enhance strategic partnerships.

President Tinubu's return marks the completion of this diplomatic engagement, with expectations that the new agreements will yield tangible benefits for both countries in the coming months.
