Troops Neutralize Terrorists in Kebbi, Rescue 62 Hostages in Zamfara

Troops from the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY), operating under Sector 2, have achieved significant successes in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in northwestern Nigeria.

In separate operations, the forces eliminated two suspected terrorists in Kebbi State and freed 62 kidnapped victims held in Zamfara State's Munhaye Forest.

The operations were carried out in close collaboration with allied security agencies and local vigilantes, highlighting a coordinated multi-agency approach to dismantling criminal networks in the region.

In Kebbi State, troops acted on credible intelligence to ambush members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, a cross-border extremist outfit active along the Nigeria-Niger border areas.

The encounter took place near the border between Augie Local Government Area in Kebbi and Binji Local Government Area in Sokoto, specifically in Kerani Village.

The troops successfully neutralized the two terrorists, who were dressed in camouflage uniforms.

They also recovered two motorcycles modified for extended travel, padded with thick blankets and equipped with items such as hand tyre pumps to support long-range movements.

In a parallel operation in Zamfara State, troops stormed Munhaye Forest  a notorious hideout linked to bandit leader Kachalla Alti, following intelligence reports of captives being held there.

The swift raid resulted in the rescue of all 62 hostages, who are now receiving care in safe custody.

Authorities have confirmed that processes are underway to reunite the freed individuals with their families.
