Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested three suspected recruitment agents linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Banki town, Borno State.
The arrests were carried out on Friday, January 17, 2026, following credible intelligence and a tip-off provided by the Banki District Head.
According to security sources, intelligence operatives conducted a covert operation in the area and apprehended the suspects in the act of attempting to recruit and transport young men for terrorist training with ISWAP elements operating in Adamawa State.
The suspects have been identified as:
Gajibo Kayama, 23
Tahiru Modu, 22
Bulama Modu, 24
Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio are alleged to have been actively recruiting youths aged between 17 and 20 from Banki town for ISWAP.
Sources indicate that the suspects were former members of the terrorist group who had claimed to have repented approximately five years ago but are now suspected of returning to recruitment activities.
“They were arrested while trying to recruit and convey youths within Banki town for training in Adamawa State,” a security source told Zagazola Makama.
The arrested individuals have been transferred to the Military Intelligence Regiment for further interrogation and necessary legal action.
The operation highlights the continued efforts by troops of Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt terrorist recruitment networks and prevent the radicalisation and movement of vulnerable youths in the Lake Chad region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
