The Lagos State Government has confirmed that rehabilitation works on Sections 2 and 3 of the Lekki-Epe Expressway (inbound from Ajah Bridge to Admiralty) will resume on Sunday, January 25, 2026, leading to a 64-day traffic diversion period.
Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, announced that the contractor has been directed to mobilize to site immediately following the conclusion of the Yuletide festivities, which had earlier delayed the project start.
The works, expected to span approximately 64 days, will be executed intersection by intersection to limit widespread disruption along the corridor.
To maximize progress within the timeline, construction activities will proceed both day and night.Daramola noted that several key intersections will be addressed primarily during nighttime hours to help preserve smoother traffic flow for commuters during the day.
A stakeholder engagement session was previously held late last year with initial plans to begin works, but the commencement was postponed to avoid clashing with the holiday period. In related enforcement news, the Lagos State Task Force has ramped up operations against illegal commercial motorcycles (okadas), impounding 134 bikes in coordinated exercises across the state.
The two-phase crackdown targeted operators violating restrictions by plying banned routes, obstructing traffic on major highways, and posing security risks.
Director of Public Affairs for the Task Force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, explained that the second phase followed an earlier morning operation, reflecting the agency’s ongoing commitment to restoring order and safety on the roads.
The exercises successfully cleared affected areas and adjoining routes of unauthorized okada activities, with authorities pledging continued strict enforcement against violators.
