'I'm Open to Settling Differences, Working with Kwankwaso' - Ganduje

Former Kano State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed willingness to mend fences with his predecessor and longtime political associate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In an interview with BBC Hausa, Ganduje stated: "In the future, we hope to settle our differences with Kwankwaso and work together. We have worked together before, we are family."

The comments mark a conciliatory tone from Ganduje amid the complex and often tense political dynamics in Kano State. Ganduje served as deputy governor under Kwankwaso from 1999 to 2003 and later succeeded him as governor in 2015, but their relationship deteriorated over issues including allegations of political godfatherism and competing influences within the state.

Despite past public spats, including sharp exchanges in 2025 over rumors of Kwankwaso potentially returning to the APC. Ganduje's latest remarks emphasize shared history and familial ties. He highlighted their prior collaboration and suggested that reconciliation could benefit the people of Kano and the broader political landscape.

The statement comes at a time when Nigerian politics ahead of future elections often involves realignments and alliances. Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has maintained a strong base in Kano, while Ganduje remains a key figure in the APC.

Neither Kwankwaso nor his camp has publicly responded to Ganduje's overture as of now.
