Contractors Rejects Finance Ministry's Claim of N152Bn,Insists Only N21Bn Received

The All-Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) has strongly disputed assertions by the Ministry of Finance that N152 billion has been disbursed to its members, insisting that only N21 billion has actually been paid out recently.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, AICAN National Secretary Babatunde Seun O. clarified that the N21 billion represented the sole recent disbursement to association members, with the payment finalized on December 31, 2025, and effected on January 21, 2026.

The association directly refuted comments attributed to the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, regarding the larger sum. According to AICAN, 938 companies had submitted verified claims totaling approximately N53 billion, yet from December 2025 onward, members have received just N61 billion, covering payments to only 611 companies.

AICAN described the N152 billion figure as "completely false and misleading," alleging it was amplified by a blogger identified as Dee-One, who claimed to have been instructed by an official source to publish the information on January 23, 2026.

The group condemned what it called sponsored efforts to spread misinformation without supporting facts or figures. The association highlighted the broader context of federal government debts to contractors, estimated at over N4 trillion nationwide.

It argued that even if the claimed N152 billion had been paid (which it denied), such an amount would amount to "a drop in the ocean" relative to the total outstanding liabilities.AICAN further accused authorities of undermining efforts to disenfranchise ordinary contractors by discouraging submissions of 2024 payment lists, despite prior agreements and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive that all verified AICAN members should receive their entitlements.
