Former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is the only priceless politician in Kano State, insisting that money does not influence his political decisions.
Kwankwaso, who was the NNPP presidential candidate in the
2023 general election, made the statement on Tuesday while addressing his
supporters at his residence in Kano.
He said that although many Nigerians believe every
politician can be bought, he is proud to describe himself as “priceless.”
According to him, if
his main interest were money, he already knows where to align politically.
The former governor also claimed that no one has ever tried
to “buy” him politically, stressing that his decisions are guided by principles
rather than financial gain.
Kwankwaso extended the same description to his supporters,
saying members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are also “priceless” because they
do not allow money to influence their choices during elections.
Previously, the ex-governor had expressed contempt for the
planned move by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to switch to the All Progressives
Congress, APC.
He said, “The most painful part is they are taking the
Governorship seat and hand it over. To Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (former Governor)
whom we rescued Kano from.”
However, in the recent comment, Kwankwaso urged his
followers to stay calm and patient, reminding them that political offices do
not last forever.
He added that situations can change at any time, noting that
God has the power to alter circumstances.
His remarks come amid reports of a growing rift between him
and Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, his long-time political ally.
The tension is linked to speculation that the governor may
be planning to defect to the APC.
