Container Truck Engulfed in Flames on Ojota Bridge in Lagos


A containerised truck burst into flames on Ojota Bridge near the Old Toll Gate in Lagos on Wednesday morning, January 7, 2026, triggering a rapid response from emergency services.


The incident was reported at approximately 8:24 a.m. by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), which immediately alerted the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.


Firefighters were quickly deployed and are actively battling the blaze to bring it under control. 


LASTMA's Rescue and Recovery Team is on site managing traffic flow and coordinating the removal of the burned vehicle, with a high-capacity tow truck assisting in the operation.


Authorities have confirmed that, despite the incident, traffic in the area remains largely unaffected with no major disruptions reported so far.


Motorists are urged to exercise caution, obey instructions from traffic officials on the ground, and consider alternative routes if necessary.


The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and further updates will be provided as the situation evolves. 


No casualties have been reported at this time.
