Governor Yusuf Mourns Brutal K!lling of Mother, Six Children, Orders Manhunt

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the gruesome murder of a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in their home at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, describing the act as barbaric, senseless, and a grave violation of human dignity.

The tragic incident took place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, when unknown assailants broke into the residence around 12:10 p.m., attacked the family with dangerous weapons, and killed all victims.

Reports indicate that one infant was thrown into a well within the compound. The bodies were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Dorayi Chiranchi, and all of Kano State.

He prayed for Allah to grant the departed eternal rest and to give their loved ones the strength to bear the unbearable loss.

The governor condemned the killings in the strongest terms, calling them unacceptable, and vowed that his administration would ensure justice is served.

He immediately directed the Kano State Police Command to launch a full-scale manhunt, arrest the perpetrators, and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

To enhance community safety and prevent future incidents, Governor Yusuf ordered the Kano Neighborhood Corps to intensify patrols and surveillance in vulnerable areas statewide.

He appealed to residents to stay calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report any suspicious activity without delay, reaffirming the government's total commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The Kano State Police Command has already arrested three suspects in connection with the crime following intelligence-led operations.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, including from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who described it as senseless violence against innocent Nigerians.

The Dorayi Chiranchi community and the entire state remain in mourning as authorities work to bring the killers to justice.
