Air France has celebrated eight decades of continuous operations in Nigeria, reaffirming its strong, long-term commitment to the country through sustained investment in flight connectivity, service enhancements, and improved passenger experience.
The milestone was marked with the opening of a special commemorative exhibition in Lagos, organized in partnership with Alliance Française.
Speaking at the event, Air France Nigeria General Manager Jean-Luc Mevellec described the 80-year journey as more than a historical achievement, it is a clear demonstration of the airline’s enduring confidence in Nigeria’s aviation market and economy.
“This exhibition is a testament to our longstanding partnership with Nigeria. We are proud to share our journey and to celebrate the cultural and economic ties that have connected our two countries for 80 years,” Mevellec said.
Air France currently operates daily non-stop flights between Lagos and Paris Charles de Gaulle, complemented by three weekly services from Abuja.
These routes provide Nigerian passengers with seamless access to more than 200 destinations worldwide through the airline’s extensive global network.
In response to rising travel demand, Air France has continued to expand capacity and upgrade services.
The airline has invested in modernizing its facilities in Nigeria, including a complete renovation of its Lagos airport lounge and enhancements to ticketing offices in both Lagos and Abuja, all aimed at delivering a superior customer experience.
French Consul General in Lagos, Laurent Favier, joined the celebration, likening the enduring Air France–Nigeria relationship to an “oak wedding”, a French expression symbolizing strength, resilience, and lasting partnership after 80 years of marriage.
The anniversary events underscore Air France’s role as one of the longest-serving international carriers in Nigeria, contributing significantly to bilateral trade, tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange between the two nations.
As Nigeria’s aviation sector continues to recover and grow, Air France’s sustained presence and investment signal optimism about the country’s future as a key aviation and economic hub in West Africa.
