Dangote Withdraws Petition Agains Farouk Ahmed, ICPC Confirms Probe Ongoing

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has withdrawn his petition against Farouk Ahmed, the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The petition, filed in December 2025 through Dangote's lawyer, Ogwu Onoja (SAN), accused Ahmed of corruption and financial impropriety, specifically alleging that he was "living beyond his means" as a public officer.

Dangote claimed in the document that Ahmed spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in Swiss schools over a six-year period, without any verifiable lawful income to support such expenditure.

The petition demanded Ahmed's arrest, investigation, and prosecution.Despite the withdrawal, the ICPC stated that its investigation into the allegations will continue independently.

The development comes amid a prolonged public dispute between Dangote Refinery and Nigerian regulatory authorities over fuel quality standards, import licences, and allegations of sabotage against the $20 billion refinery project.

No official reason has been given for Dangote's decision to withdraw the petition. Neither Dangote Group nor Farouk Ahmed has issued a public statement on the matter as of now.

The ICPC has not provided a timeline for the conclusion of its ongoing probe.
