COAS Visits Etsu Nupe, Reaffirms Operational Readiness, Seeks Counsel on National Security


Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), paid a courtesy visit to the Etsu Nupe, His Royal Highness Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, on Wednesday in Bida, Niger State. 


The visit highlighted the Nigerian Army's commitment to collaboration with traditional institutions while addressing ongoing security challenges.During the meeting, Lt. Gen. 


Shaibu expressed gratitude for the monarch's longstanding support to the Nigerian Army and sought his valuable insights on tackling insecurity nationwide.


The COAS highlighted ongoing evaluations of troop deployments, identifying operational gaps and opportunities to reinforce forces as needed. 


He shared the critical role of community-based human intelligence in supporting security agencies, noting that local input is essential for successful operations.


"We are here not just for a courtesy call but to continually draw on your wisdom in confronting security issues, especially in partnership with the police," Lt. Gen. Shaibu stated. 


He praised the Etsu Nupe's military background, including past operations in Liberia and multinational joint forces, as uniquely qualifying him to advise on security strategies in Niger State and beyond.


Lt. Gen. Shaibu also commended the royal family's contributions to troops in the region, describing them as vital for effective security management. 


He pledged sustained dialogue with community leaders to boost operational outcomes and emphasized the Army's use of advanced technology to combat threats.In response, the Etsu Nupe praised the Nigerian Army's dedication and sacrifices. 


"We pray that Allah grants you protection, strength, wisdom, and courage to surmount all obstacles," HRH Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar said.


He expressed confidence in the Army's rich history and Lt. Gen. Shaibu's leadership to achieve excellence in domestic and international missions. 


The monarch stressed investments in logistics, manpower, training, and technology to sustain readiness.


Assuring ongoing prayers and support, the Etsu Nupe highlighted the importance of synergy between traditional rulers and security forces for national stability. 


He noted the expansion of military units in the area from battalions to brigades and special forces—and hoped for further growth to strengthen regional security.
