Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has boldly projected that Plateau State will deliver more than one million votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, citing the party's strengthened dominance and influx of key political figures.
Speaking at a stakeholders' meeting for the Pankshin, Kanke, and Kanam (PKK) Federal Constituency in Pankshin, Yilwatda highlighted the dramatic shift in the state's political landscape since 2023.
He noted that numerous former opponents, including commissioners, local government chairmen, and other appointees from Governor Caleb Mutfwang's administration, have defected to the APC, bolstering its ranks.
Describing PKK as the APC's traditional stronghold, Yilwatda recalled the party's strong performance in the 2023 elections, where it secured victories in two out of three local governments for the presidency, as well as the Senate, House of Representatives, and most state Assembly seats.
"Come 2027, I can assure you that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will pull some of his highest votes here, both in numbers and in percentage," Yilwatda declared.
"There is no ward, no polling unit in PKK that we will not win. Politics is a game of numbers, and our target is over one million votes."
He emphasized the party's unity at state and federal levels, pointing out that the APC now holds the governorship, the national chairmanship, nearly all National Assembly and state Assembly seats, and most local government positions.
Yilwatda announced a new strategy: the party will cease public criticism of the governor, instead engaging directly to foster good governance.
On a national scale, he touted the APC's overwhelming strength, with over 70 senators, nearly 300 House of Representatives members, and control of 29 states.
He also highlighted ongoing internal reforms, including digital membership registration and plans for a new national secretariat in Abuja.
Stakeholders at the meeting, including prominent figures, echoed Yilwatda's optimism, pledging unwavering support for President Tinubu and the APC ahead of 2027.
