The Atiku Haske Organisation has expelled Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, following his recent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and attempts to redirect the group's political allegiance.
Abba Atiku, popularly known as Abba, formally defected to the APC on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
He was received at the National Assembly complex in Abuja by Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and other APC leaders from the North-East zone.
In his announcement, Abba declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027 under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also instructed coordinators and members of his political structure originally established in 2022 as the Atiku Haske Organisation to immediately join the APC.
Additionally, he announced the renaming of the group to the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, signaling a complete shift in loyalty.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, January 18, 2026, Hon. Mai Nagge Musa Bakari (also referred to as Musa Bakari), the initiator and convener of the Atiku Haske Organisation, rejected Abba's actions and directives as unauthorized and invalid.
Bakari emphasized that Abba holds no founding or leadership authority over the organization:
“We founded the Atiku Haske Organisation and we merely invited Abba to join the group. Abba has neither contributed a naira to the activities of the group nor possesses the certificate of registration of the group.”
The convener described Abba's directive as “null and void” and “dead on arrival”, stating that it contravenes the group's collective resolutions, values, and principles. He announced Abba's immediate expulsion, declaring:
“What Abba has done is contrary to our resolution, values and principles and he is hereby expelled from the organisation.”
The organization reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the best candidate to deliver good governance and alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.
It stressed that the group had previously resolved to move en masse from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and has no interest in defecting to the APC or any other party alongside Abba.
“The Atiku Haske Organisation is not a party to, neither is it interested in joining Abba to defect to any other political party apart from the African Democratic Congress,” the statement read.
“We are even more resolute in our conviction that His Excellency Atiku Abubakar is the best candidate to drive home our objective. Therefore, the Atiku Haske Organisation is solidly behind Atiku.”
The expulsion highlights deepening divisions within political support structures ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition figures navigate defections, coalitions, and family dynamics in Nigeria's evolving political landscape.
The group challenged Abba to establish his own separate organization rather than claim affiliation with the Atiku Haske Organisation.
