The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a significant improvement in electricity generation across the country, attributing the gains to the successful repair of vandalized gas infrastructure and enhanced gas supply to key thermal power plants.
In a press release issued today, NISO stated that the restoration of the Lagos-Escravos-Lagos gas supply pipeline by the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC), combined with increased gas delivery to several major thermal plants, has led to a notable rise in power output.
"This development is a positive step toward stabilizing the electricity supply and improving grid reliability for consumers nationwide," the statement read.
To ensure a smooth recovery, affected power plants are gradually increasing their offtake while maintaining stability in both the gas supply network and the national grid.
The operator emphasized that this cautious approach is designed to prevent system stress and guarantee reliable electricity for industries, businesses, and households.
Meanwhile, additional thermal power plants remain on standby, ready for integration into the national grid once gas supply is confirmed from their respective suppliers between now and Saturday, December 27, 2025.
Their activation is expected to further enhance generation capacity and minimize the risk of outages.
NISO reiterated its commitment to close collaboration with power generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulatory bodies to monitor developments in real time and address operational challenges promptly.
The organization remains dedicated to building a reliable, efficient, and resilient power system to support Nigeria's socio-economic growth.Consumers have been urged to practice energy conservation where possible to complement ongoing efforts to stabilize power supply.
