Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul'aziz Yari Abubakar, arrived at Ibadan Airport on Sunday ahead of his conferment as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo.
The senator was accompanied by a high-profile delegation of prominent northern senators and political figures, including:
- Former Senate President Ahmad Lawan
- Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal
- Senator Abubakar Sani Bello
- Senator Kabiru Gaya
- Senator Sahabi Ya'u Kaura
- Senator Sani Musa
- Senator Shehu Umar
- Alhaji Abubakar Dantabawa
- Alhaji Kabiru Kamba
The group is in Oyo State for the chieftaincy installation ceremony scheduled at the Alaafin's Palace in Oyo town.
The title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland, described as a prestigious Eso-class honour representing love, compassion, justice, and guardianship of the realm, underscores Senator Yari's contributions to national unity.
The event will also see Barrister Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, conferred with the title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland, symbolising a beloved custodian of Yoruba values, unity, and cultural heritage.
The dual installation marks one of the early high-profile traditional honours under the reign of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, who ascended the throne in 2025.
The ceremony is expected to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria, highlighting bridges between northern and southwestern political and cultural spheres.
