The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has achieved a new milestone by loading over 2,000 trucks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily, solidifying its role as Nigeria's primary fuel distribution center while private depots experience significantly reduced activity.
This record-breaking volume follows recent strategic measures, including a reduction in the ex-depot price to ₦699 per litre and lowering the minimum purchase quantity from 2 million litres to 250,000 litres.
These adjustments have enabled direct access for thousands of smaller independent marketers, who now contribute substantially to the daily outflows.
The introduction of a 10-day bank guarantee payment option has also boosted participation, alleviating cash flow challenges and supporting continuous 24-hour loading operations to accommodate the high demand.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), which controls over 80% of the country's retail outlets, has strongly supported the transition.
Earlier reports from mid-December indicated loadings exceeding 1,000 trucks per day, with the figure now consistently above 2,000.
Industry insiders note a clear shift in the market dynamics: Dangote Refinery is handling the majority of petrol distribution, leading to lower throughput and narrower profit margins at traditional private depots nationwide.
As the refinery continues to ramp up operations, these developments are expected to further stabilize fuel supply and influence pump prices across Nigeria.
