Saidu Mohammed Withdraws from Seplat Energy Board

Seplat Energy Plc has announced that Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed has withdrawn his acceptance of an appointment as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective January 1, 2026, citing a conflict of interest due to his nomination and subsequent role as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The withdrawal comes just days after Seplat announced Mohammed's board appointment on December 17, 2025—the same day President Bola Tinubu nominated him to replace Engineer Farouk Ahmed as NMDPRA CEO.

Ahmed had resigned amid corruption allegations levelled by billionaire Aliko Dangote, including claims of misuse of public funds. In a regulatory filing on December 22, 2025, signed by Company Secretary Edith Onwuchekwa, Seplat confirmed receipt of formal notification from Mohammed.

The company congratulated him on the "significant national assignment," expressing confidence that his leadership would benefit Nigeria's petroleum sector.Seplat emphasised its commitment to corporate governance best practices and stated that it continues to strengthen its board in pursuit of strategic objectives.

Mohammed, a chemical engineering graduate from Ahmadu Bello University with over 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, previously held senior roles at NNPC, including Group Executive Director for Gas and Power.

His NMDPRA appointment has since been confirmed by the Nigerian Senate.

The development highlights potential conflicts in Nigeria's energy sector, where regulatory roles and private sector board positions can overlap.

Seplat's board remains focused on delivering value amid ongoing industry reforms.
