The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed February 21, 2026, as the date for bye-elections to fill two vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly: Ahoada East II and Khana II State Constituencies.
The announcement was made following an extraordinary Commission meeting on Monday, during which INEC also assessed ongoing preparations for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for the same day.
The bye-elections are being conducted pursuant to Section 116 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers INEC to fill vacancies in state legislatures.
The Ahoada East II constituency seat fell vacant after the resignation of its former occupant, while the Khana II seat became empty following the death of the incumbent member.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly has officially notified INEC of both vacancies.

Notice of Election: To be published on January 22, 2026
Conduct of Party Primaries (including resolution of disputes arising therefrom): January 23–27, 2026
Commencement of Public Campaigns by political parties and candidates: February 8, 2026
End of Public Campaigns: February 19, 2026 (midnight)
Election Day: February 21, 2026
INEC urged political parties, aspirants, and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the outlined timetable.
