Gombe State Governor and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has announced the appointment of Mr. Ezekiel Nyam Gomos, OFR, as the first substantive Director-General of the Forum’s Secretaria.
The decision, approved by all 19 northern governors, marks a major step in restructuring the NSGF into a stronger, more professional platform for regional policy coordination, economic integration, and collective action against insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment.
Speaking while presenting the appointment letter in Gombe, Governor Yahaya described the creation of the office of Director-General as a deliberate move to transform the Secretariat from an administrative unit into a strategic think-tank and implementation hub for the North.
He charged the new DG to deploy his wealth of experience to foster greater synergy among the 19 states, drive joint development initiatives, and position the region as a unified voice in national affairs.
Mr. Gomos, a seasoned development economist and former Secretary to the Government of Plateau State, brings decades of high-level public service and institutional leadership experience to the role.
He previously served in top positions at the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC), West African Examinations Council (WAEC), and as Lead Consultant and Head of Faculty at the Jos Business School.
A long-standing resource person at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Mr. Gomos holds postgraduate degrees from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of East Anglia, UK.
He is an alumnus of prestigious international programmes, including the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship (University of Minnesota), British Chevening Scholarship, and executive courses at Harvard Kennedy School and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Governor Yahaya expressed full confidence that under Mr. Gomos’s leadership, the NSGF Secretariat will deliver measurable progress in regional security coordination, economic planning, and sustainable development, heralding a new chapter of unity and progress for Northern Nigeria.
