Former Kano governorship candidate, Salihu Tanko-Yakassai has accused the police orderly attached to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin of openly flouting President Bola Tinubu’s recent directive ordering the immediate withdrawal of all police personnel serving as orderlies to Very Important Persons (VIPs).
The accusation came after Senator Jibrin on Wednesday shared photographs from a condolence visit, showing his uniformed orderly (dressed in mufti) standing directly behind him.
Posting on his X handle, Tanko-Yakassai wrote:
“Even in mufti, this is clearly the DSP’s orderly. Mr President gave a clear directive that all orderlies attached to VIPs be withdrawn with immediate effect, yet some officers are still disobeying. I’m helping the police fish out those who refuse to comply.”
He tagged the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police, urging swift action against the officer.
President Tinubu had, in November 2025, ordered the redeployment of all police orderlies attached to politicians and other VIPs back to regular policing duties as part of measures to address manpower shortages and rising insecurity across the country.
Several political figures have since complied, but Tanko-Yakassai’s public call-out has reignited debate over enforcement of the presidential directive at the highest levels of government.
