PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike, Turaki Factions Issue Rival Disclaimers

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a dramatic turn on Wednesday as two rival factions issued competing disclaimers declaring prominent members of the opposing camp expelled from the party.

The faction loyal to former presidential aspirant Tanimu Turaki released a strongly worded statement declaring that Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and his allies “are no longer members of the Peoples Democratic Party and should cease to be recognised or addressed as such with immediate effect.”

Hours later, the faction aligned with Nyesom Wike fired back with its own disclaimer, announcing that Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), and several other governors and leaders “have ceased to be members of the PDP and should no longer be regarded or paraded as members of the party.”

Both statements cited alleged anti-party activities and gross violation of the PDP constitution as grounds for the expulsions.

The bizarre exchange of disclaimers has left party members, supporters, and political observers confused about who remains a legitimate member of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Neither the National Working Committee nor the acting National Chairman has issued an official position on the rival claims, further deepening the leadership vacuum that has plagued the PDP since the 2023 elections.
