Four people were wounded on Tuesday morning when a commercial truck loaded with bags of onions struck an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the Baga–Maiduguri highway near Lingir village, Guzamala LGA, Borno State.
The blast occurred around 10:30 a.m. as the truck, registered XA 504 GSH (Yobe plate), was travelling from Baga in Kukawa LGA to Maiduguri.
The victims, driver Umar Isah (25) and passengers Suleiman Isa (22), Ibrahim Bala (25), and Umar Hassan (22), all residents of Maiduguri sustained various injuries.
The vehicle was heavily damaged.Troops from Operation HADIN KAI quickly secured the scene, cordoned off the area, documented the incident, and conducted a sweep for additional explosives.
No other devices were found.The injured were first rushed to Monguno General Hospital before being transferred to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, where they are receiving treatment and reported to be responding positively.
Security sources suspect the IED was planted by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), who continue to target civilian and military movements along that axis.
