Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has advanced the state's Keke (Tricycle) Ambulance Initiative, aimed at providing one specialized tricycle ambulance to each of the 361 political wards to enhance emergency healthcare access, particularly in rural and remote areas.
During an inspection of the assembly project at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the governor announced that 102 units have been completed, with ongoing work to finish the rest.
Each tricycle is equipped with oxygen cylinders, patient beds, and essential first-aid kits.
The initiative fulfills a campaign promise to revitalize at least one Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) per ward, with over 270 already renovated, equipped, and operational.
The keke ambulances will facilitate rapid patient evacuation from these PHCs to higher facilities, addressing delays in emergency response on narrow rural paths where conventional ambulances struggle.
Governor Radda also approved the procurement of 15 fully equipped conventional ambulances to be stationed along major roads for accident and other emergencies, complementing the tricycle fleet.
"This project demonstrates our commitment to ensuring every ward has access to timely emergency care," Radda stated, emphasizing progress toward 24-hour healthcare services statewide.
The move highlights the administration's focus on grassroots health infrastructure, aiming for equitable and responsive medical services across Katsina's diverse terrain.
