Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended his annual festive support by distributing essential food items to widows and vulnerable individuals in the Christian community as part of preparations for Christmas celebrations.
The initiative, which occurred on Monday, is expected to reach more than 6,000 beneficiaries. Among them, 1,605 internally displaced persons (IDPs) each received a bag of rice, a carton of spaghetti, and a gallon of cooking oil.
Governor Zulum personally oversaw the distribution and stressed the value of peace, unity, and shared prosperity across religious and ethnic lines in Borno State.
The gesture is designed to alleviate economic hardships, allowing less-privileged families to mark the holidays with dignity and joy.
This year's distribution continues a longstanding tradition under Zulum's administration, which has provided similar support to the Christian community every Christmas since his inauguration in 2019.
The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State, Most Rev. John Bogna Bakeni, thanked the governor for his inclusive approach, noting that it brings hope and reinforces interfaith harmony in the state.
