Gov AbdulRazaq presents N644bn budget to Kwara Assembly

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday presented a N644,004,816,893 Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year to the Kwara State House of Assembly, dubbing it the "Budget of Consolidation and Sustained Growth."

The proposal allocates approximately 65.98% (capital expenditure) to infrastructure and developmental projects, with the remaining 34.02% dedicated to recurrent spending, including support for vulnerable citizens and enhanced workers' welfare.

During the presentation, Governor AbdulRazaq emphasized prioritizing the completion of ongoing projects while initiating new ones in critical areas such as security enhancements  including hardware, vehicles, and technology to combat kidnapping and investments to solidify Kwara's position as Northern Nigeria's leading service, creative, and tech economy.

The budget is premised on national economic assumptions, including an oil price benchmark of $64.85 per barrel, daily production of 1.84 million barrels, an exchange rate of N1,400 to the US dollar, and a projected GDP growth of 4.68%.

Highlighting inclusivity, the governor noted recent approvals for salary adjustments for medical officers, the introduction of a new Teachers Salary Allowance (TSA) in 2026, and massive investments in the Alfalfa Estate to mitigate herder-farmer conflicts, bolster food security, and empower communities along the agricultural value chain.

Recalling achievements from the outgoing year, AbdulRazaq listed the completion of 38 roads, 29 interlock access lanes, the Innovation Hub (which has attracted over $20 million in tech investments), and progress on flagship projects like the Kwara Hotel, International Conference Centre, Patigi Regatta Motel, Shea Butter Factories, Revenue House, Indoor Sports Hall, and new university campuses in Osi and Ilesha Baruba.

He also pointed to advancements in education, health, water supply, and agriculture, including the foundation laying for the Kwara State University of Education's permanent site and ongoing work on the Kwara Smart City.

Speaker of the House, Engr. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, praised the governor's respect for separation of powers, fiscal discipline, transparency, and visible impacts in infrastructure, agriculture, food security, and worker welfare.

He assured expeditious consideration of the bill, with engagements involving relevant ministries, departments, and agencies.

The session was attended by Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, federal lawmakers, cabinet members, judicial officials including Grand Kadi Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, and traditional rulers led by Etsu Patigi, Ibrahim Umar Bologi II.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the 2026 budget as pivotal for his administration's legacy, urging the Assembly to fast-track its passage.
