FCT Police Nab Suspected Ammunition Runner Supplying Zamfara Bandits

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of trying to procure 1,000 rounds of ammunition for bandit groups terrorising Zamfara State.

The suspect, Ahmed Abubakar, a native of Gusau in Zamfara State who resides in Anguwan Dodo, Gwagwalada Area Council, was apprehended on Saturday, December 7, 2024, around 3:30 p.m. by policemen attached to Mabushi Division acting on credible intelligence.

Security sources revealed that Abubakar had approached a serving Nigerian Army Corporal, Yusuf Mohammed, offering money in exchange for supplying 1,000 rounds of live ammunition, which he openly admitted were destined for bandits operating in Zamfara.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that he was sent by his uncle, Ahmed Yakubu, who lives at the same address in Gwagwalada and remains at large.

Yakubu allegedly instructed his nephew to buy the ammunition in Abuja and transport it back to Zamfara for use by local bandit gangs.Police recovered ₦170,100 from Abubakar, believed to be part payment for the planned illegal deal.

The FCT Police Command confirmed that the suspect is in custody for further investigation, while a manhunt has been launched for the fugitive uncle, Ahmed Yakubu, and efforts are ongoing to trace the soldier allegedly contacted for the transaction.
